Common Purpose and American Express collaborated on hosting
parallel leadership academies in London and Delhi in November.
The simultaneous sessions followed the successful pilot of
not-for-profit leadership academies in 2010.
The four day courses are aimed at developing emerging leaders of
non-profit organisations in both countries - and the 26
participants in the UK and 23 in India came from a wide range of
organisations and positions.
In the session attendees met with senior leaders of established
not-for-profit institutions as well as those from other sectors and
went through rotating dialogues, a highly energising Collab, visits
and plenary discussions. Guests included Alistair Spalding, CEO of
Sadler's Wells, Rita Clifton, Chairman of Interbrand, Raymond
Joabar, Managing Director, American Express UK.
In Delhi, participants heard from Dr Rukmini Banerjee- Pratham,
Tom Schick, Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs and
Communications, American Express and Shonali Khan, Country
Director, Breakthrough.
Tim McClimon, President of the American Express Foundation, was
very pleased with both academies: "We are committed to providing
current and future not-for-profit leaders with opportunities to
build and hone leadership skills critical to the sector."
Peter Robson, Director of Finance and Strategy, Action on Hearing
Loss, took part in the UK Academy: "The academy was a fantastic
personal journey from which I have taken significant learning and
opportunities to challenge myself. The people I met on the course
and the facilitation were great and I am certain we will all
benefit for having participated. I look forward to catching up with
my learning group and the wider cohort in a few months."
